Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI)

In the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method, questions are recorded in a software program, such as Open Data Kit (ODK), and the interviewer reads them out from a computer/tablet/iPod/smartphone screen and enters the respondent’s answers directly into the device. This method is usually preferred over a telephone interview when the questionnaire is long and complicated as during the meeting, an interviewer is generally present to serve as a host and to guide the respondent. If no interviewer is present, the term Computer-Assisted Self Interviewing (CASI) may be used.
