Labor Market Assessment Services (LMA)

A labor market assessment examines the constraints, capabilities, and potential for expanding labor opportunities within a local market system. In crisis-affected societies such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Yemen, this assessment includes examining the existing labor realities and economic coping strategies, as well as identifying ways to recover, strengthen, and expand viable labor opportunities for the population. As a result, labor market assessments provide conflict-sensitive and market-driven insights that can inform the design and implementation of livelihood interventions. LMAs help us understand how the crisis negatively influenced labor opportunities in the country or how the crisis created new labor opportunities. These assessments also examine labor opportunities and strategies for different age and gender groups. In the meantime, the findings of LMAs describe and analyze the relationships between key actors and stakeholders in various sectors.

Labor Market Assessments

AACS Consulting often uses several tools and information sources to understand the labor market system and allows its clients to look at the specific market from multiple perspectives. We use a range of tools to understand the supply and demand perspectives, as well as gather qualitative and quantitative data.

For instance, AACS Consulting uses the business/employer survey tool to understand the labor market from the view of the private sector. The device also collects information on self-employment, such as the constraints to starting and managing a business and identification of high potential growth sectors for aspiring entrepreneurs. In addition, AACS Consulting conducts focus group discussions to assess job seekers’ perceptions of their current skills, opportunities, and challenges for economic engagement. AACS Consulting also assists its clients in understanding the broader business ecosystem by conducting key informant interviews. These are administered to targeted stakeholders, including local, regional, and national government officials.
